You set your own schedule from one week to three months. Longer periods are also possible in teaching & homestay or just homestay arrangements.
You may study any time of the year. Our time is your time. We are flexible. You choose the weeks that you have the time and leave the rest up to us. You may choose time from any season. For example, many students enjoy the winter snow of New England skiing at nearby mountains or ice skating on one of our many ponds (Frog Pond in Boston) is newly open to the public and very popular. The spring offers great boating attractions and festivals. Summer is just great in the Boston area. The fall is the most beautiful of all with our world-renown foliage of brilliant colors, etc. in Phoenix, Arizona. The winter months (November - February) are the best times for Florida and Arizona with temperatures in the 70's and lots of beautiful sunshine!
Yes, we certainly do accept two students at the same time. Many of our teachers and their families can accommodate a couple traveling together/studying together. In some cases, an entire family may be accommodated in one of our teachers’ very large homes. In the case of more than two people traveling together, special arrangements/prices would be arranged between the studying family and the host family.
ALP’s entire premise is to offer fair pricing to all interested persons regardless of status, age or global location. In that effort, we have purposely kept our tuition prices low in order to make it possible for more students all over the world to partake of this English language immersion program. Many schools charge a great deal more than we but we excel them in that our students return again and again happy in what we have done for them at affordable prices.
ALP pricing will increase after January, 1999. In order to secure good teachers with pleasant homes we must be able to pay them satisfactorily. The student tuition increase is a teacher payment increase. Even with the rise in program costs ours is well below our competitors in this regard. Compare us to others and you will come back to our methods and pricing!
We tutor in preparation for the TOEFL and can assist in your application, etc. We can help you make applications (for example, LLM) to selected US universities; often we help students prepare their entrance essays and study for required exams. We can offer specialized business, banking, or sales tutoring. If you should have a medical problem, we can help you to find the best kinds of doctors that our areas offer. We can assist in appointments and communication between you and your doctor. For example, if you know that you will need a two week treatment but would like to be in the South Florida area, we can help you find your treatment in the area of your choice! Just let us know what you are in need of and we will try to accommodate you! Make sure to check out our S.A.P. (Student Assistance Programs) page: http://www.alp-online.com/programs.htm
You would contact your Regional Supervisor who would change your situation (teacher/homestay) immediately. It is rare that such changes are necessary; however, should it be necessary, the RS could make such a change within a day or two days at most.
ALP homes are generally two parent with several children, either older children or middle school age children. However, some of our homes have single parents with one or more children and extended families. Many of our teachers live in large houses with nice yards. All homes are accessible to the city via bus, train or the “T”(subway). In many areas in the US most people live in the suburbs not in the center of the city. We commute to the center via mass transportation. The suburbs are more quiet and safe than large cities but just as convenient. Each student has his own private room, usually attractively decorated and complete with a desk for study. Laundry is done by the host parents and all meals are a wholesome, family style with the teacher’s family. Meals may be more formal/lavish on the Business & Specialized Program and the 5-Star Deluxe Program.
No, there is no special requirement for a Visa in order to study in one of our ALP programs if you are from any of the principal European countries. You are considered a tourist under our program and do not require one in most instances. Other countries in the world need visas. Should you require one, however, we will be happy to furnish you with the necessary paperwork in order for you to obtain it.
Yes, students may book a weekend trip to a nearby city and travel costs can be added to their contracts. Also, ALP offers numerous activities and leisure courses that student may add to their programs. Please visit our "Programs" page for more information!
